This lovely window panel from the  Crossan Heritage House was the second part of my first repair job for an old fashioned lead came style window. The panel had a large break that covered 2 of the sections of it.  After trying to replace just the broken section, we discovered that we had to remove the top quarter of the panel to be able to replace the broken pieces with the pieces cut from one of the smaller panels that was still in good shape, but being replaced with a thermal window.  Materials definitely have different properties than I'm used to working with, with the copper foil method.  Lots of elbow grease, a good hacksaw, a good came knife, and the help of a wonderful problem-solving husband did the trick!  The contractor, Pheasant Hill Homes Ltd, advised that safety glass will be installed in front of the piece to protect from further breakage.  Working with old glass is a fairly iffy proposition as glass becomes more brittle with age and exposure to sunlight, making it much more prone to cracks, and increasing the "refusal" to break along the cutline.   If you have a similar project that needs doing, please call 406-396-9940 for a quote.
